Deep-steamed Tea
Offering the reliability and stable quality you expect from a specialist tea purveyor.
The first cup of Japanese tea is often said to be about aroma, while the second about flavor. With Deep-steamed Tea, the tea is steamed for 2-3 times longer than usual to produce a single cup with a rich aroma and taste all at once. Nabeshimameicha is a historic tea purveyor that has spanned five generations and offers a unique aroma, flavor, and cloudy brew in its tea. As specialty purveyors of Deep-steamed Tea, our products have been beloved for over 110 years. Originally, tea merchants traveled throughout Japan, providing the perfect tea for each region and customer. As such tea sommeliers, Nabeshimameicha offers a diverse array of flavors, from high-quality, rare single-origin varieties to unique blends with ratios passed down through generations.
The secret to our flavor
As “tea sommeliers”
Nabeshimameicha carefully selects tea leaves from long-established tea wholesalers and new tea farms alike, ensuring that only the finest leaves, which meet our standards, are delivered to our customers. There are few tea shops that consistently offer such a wide variety of tea leaves with this level of stability.
The Honyama region offers excellent soil quality
Nabeshimameicha proudly offers the pinnacle of single-origin varieties: the rare “Asatsuyu” harvested in the Honyama district of Kakegawa, Shizuoka Prefecture. Known as natural gyokuro, this variety is not commonly handled by many tea shops in Shizuoka. Nabeshimameicha’s “Asatsuyu” is grown in east-facing tea fields, producing a tea with a perfect balance of astringency, brought out by the morning sun.
Nabeshimameicha’s flavor: The result of artisan blenders
Since tea leaves are a natural product, their quality varies each year. However, at Nabeshimameicha, we strive to provide our customers with a consistent taste by using original blends to deliver the stable quality tea “Seisen.” Nabeshimameicha ensures that our customers can always enjoy a comforting cup with the familiar aroma and flavor they love.
Kakegawa’s Yabukita tea offers a rich flavor
The deep umami of tea from Kakegawa in Shizuoka Prefecture is the crystallization of its warm climate and fertile soil. The tea grown in this region is characterized by its mellow sweetness, umami, and well-balanced astringency, embodying the essence of Japanese tea. Nabeshimameicha has been captivated by this tea and has been handling it for decades.
The key to taste
Good tea is not made from quality ingredients alone. Roasting, harvesting time, and storage conditions are all crucial factors. Nabeshimameicha’s commitment to excellence in every detail is what upholds the current taste of our tea.
Heritage of the 5th generation
The “aroma,” “flavor,” and “color” of Nabeshimameicha are an art form that has been passed down through generations. As the 5th generation, we not only preserve the essence of tea but also maintain the deep bonds with farmers, wholesalers, and customers. These cherished relationships are what shape the true essence of our tea.

Tea is a gift from nature
The aroma, sweetness, umami, and astringency of green tea vary like individual personalities depending on the region, cultivation methods, and manufacturing techniques. It’s impossible to quantify all teas, but from a sensory perspective, I find the balance of umami and sweetness at 6.5 and astringency at 3.5 to be ideal. However, the process of cultivating and finishing tea is even more dramatic. By selecting leaves and using the experience and techniques honed over the years, we bring out the best flavors and aromas that tea inherently possesses. Yes, tea has this fascinating aspect. Tea is a gift from nature. Therefore, it can sometimes be influenced by changes in the natural environment. That’s why there isn’t a definitive “best” tea. What matters most is finding the tea that you think is “the most delicious” and enjoying it to the fullest.
